Plein-air Painting

When I travel, I like to immerse myself in the culture and atmosphere of the place. I find one of the best ways to do that is to sit down and take out my plein-air kit, and simply become one with the environment. Sometimes I almost become invisible (when passersby are not too inquisitive :P ), and observe the world through my paint brush. It is always a therapeutic experience — to watch the light change (always too quickly), and to see the colours dance, making decisions about which pigments you are going to mix today.

My tools change pretty frequently, but the usuals have been:

  • portable gouache or watercolour set

  • collapsible water bucket

  • 1/4” angled brush or flat brush

  • spray bottle for rewetting the paint

  • paint rag

  • Moleskine watercolour A3 Sketchbook
