Amelia the Not-So-Small Superhero

Written by Stephanie Lecce | Self Published Fall 2020

A children’s book that inspires future world changers to realize that age is not a barrier when it comes to making a difference.

Through this story, kids learn about real-life (small human) superheroes that are making the world a better place using their own special talent, and driven by their passionate dream.

Stephanie and I met through our local Sofar sound event in the winter of 2019. Stephanie first told me about the idea at a small coffee shop (one of many coffee shop meetings to come), her enthusiasm for the story was infectious and I quickly fell in love with Amelia as well. Being two highly productive and excited individuals, we quickly came up with a game plan. After plenty of research and consideration of all our options, we decided to go with the self-publishing route and set out a schedule for our Kickstarter Campaign for the fall of 2020.

Did you know Amelia is in real life and indeed a very lovable, freckled and artistic little girl, that Ms.L (Stephanie) taught as a third-grader couple of years back? We have met up once for me to do “research” and eat ice-cream, which quickly turned into a doodle party. I think that meeting was crucial to the making of this book, especially for me when I was designing the character and capturing the spirit of Amelia.

The stories in this book have inspired little girls to run around the house, yelling “different ways she can be a superhero”, many kiddos curled up on the floor enthralled. This is what we hope our book can do for all the young ones out there reading, teach them that — we all can find our own not-so-small ways to change the world for the better ★
