Never stop exploring
With each passing day, life only seems to get busier and available time for personal illustrations dwindle. However, instead stressing over having to be productive, I treasure every little moments I do get to play and dabble. And these days, I seem to be jumping from one art supply to another.
Inspired by my collection of tiny frames, I did a piece where the illustration worked as a whole as well as cut up in smaller compositions. Perhaps it was just an excuse to illustrate fun tiny details.
One of my new year resolution for 2026 has been to use all of my art supplies at least once. Not sure if I will be able to achieve it, but in the meantime, it’s been heck loads of fun.
Caran d’ache crayons is just one of those supplies. Purchased for more expressive work while working on my latest book When the Clouds Came, it has quickly become one of my favourites. The juicy saturated layering with the ability to do washes, makes it such a fun tool for playing around.
Latest to the collection of art supplies is Pan Pastels. Let me tell you, I have not loved a new art supply just as quickly! The softness of it feels so perfectly me, and similar to the way I like to layer watercolour washes. I am still learning and experimenting with how I would like to use them in my future picture book work.
So, you could say I don’t have a consistent style and I don’t want to! Because being willing to play around, to let go (still learning this) is the key to enjoying art marking. Don’t you think? So let’s dive into our piles of art supplies for 2026 and go exploring! <3
